About us

The MBA is an industry association that voluntarily unites local and global banks and other related financial institutions which are engaged in banking and financial business activities in Mongolia. The role of the MBA is to represent the interest of the banking sector and serve its members as a sounding board of policy discussions.

Aimed at contributing to the development of Mongolia’s banking sector and creating a supportive policy environment and financial infrastructure, MBA has established the following institutions in cooperation with its member organizations:

  • The Banking and Finance Academy – to conduct training and capacity development programs on banking and finance;
  • The Credit Guarantee Fund – to provide credit guarantee service;
  • The Mongolian Mortgage Corporation – to develop first and second mortgage markets;
  • The Mongolian Sustainable Finance Association;

Since its establishment in 2000, MBA has managed to expand itself to a professional industry association through its services and activities. Now it includes 24 members: 12 local banks, The Development Bank of Mongolia, The Deposit Insurance Corporation, The Loan Guarantee Fund, Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation’s Representative Office in Ulaanbaatar, MUFG Representative Office in Ulaanbaatar, the Bank of China’s Representative Office in Ulaanbaatar, UnionPay International, Credit Information Bureau LLC, The Mongolian Mortgage Corporation, The Banking and Finance Academy, The Brinks Global LLC.

In 2007, MBA started publishing its own newspaper and magazine with the aim of increasing news and information flow among its member organizations and partners, and provide bank customers and the public with the latest trends and updates on a variety of events in the sector. At the moment, MBA provides news and updates through its information channels including the online MBA email newsletter, the website www. mba.mn and social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.

As a professional industry association and a union of bankers and financial experts, MBA has established several professional councils. These councils enable staff and subject experts from member organizations to have regular meetings to share their knowledge experiences, and to discuss on current banking and financial sector updates. Furthermore, professional councils have created an opportunity for members to work together by identifying the most challenging matters in the banking sector and seeking the best solutions to those identified matters.

The day-to-day activities of the MBA are managed by the Secretariat, a team of 6, under the direct supervision of the CEO and Secretary-General and guidance from the MBA Board.
